A cameo showing how deeply Fabbri has understood the poetry of his inspirer, whose music is always a timid suggestion spoken softly, never a tumultuous proclaim. Cato was right: “The deeper the rivers are, the more they flow silently.”
Luca Bragalini (from liner notes)
Shortly after playing Billy Strayhorn's repertory in a trio format (Fabbri, Giammarco Tavolazzi), the ensemble now goes further homaging the masterworks of the same composer, whose name is so close linked with Duke Ellington, adding a larger brass-oriented ensemble.
The arrangements and the elaborations of some of the best known but also some less famous compositions, are by Alessandro Fabbri and Maurizio Giammarco. Although being faithfull to the original melodies, the arrangers open up new landscapes of interpretations. Thanks to the accurate and detailed writing, the brass section is not only playing a mere background but they contribute deeply to the overall project. Room for expressions is let, finally, to the soloists such as Roberto rossi and Ares Tavolazzi.
