Dopo la frequentazione del repertorio di Billy Strayhorn in trio (Fabbri, Giammarco Tavolazzi), il gruppo si cimenta ora nella rilettura di alcuni dei capolavori del medesimo autore, musicista emblematico ed indissolubilmente legato al nome di Ellington, con l’ausilio di una formazione più ampia caratterizzata da una nutrita rappresentanza di strumenti ad ottone.
Gli arrangiamenti e le rielaborazioni di alcuni dei più noti temi ma anche di alcune perle meno conosciute, sono curati da Alessandro Fabbri e Maurizio Giammarco e, pur tenendo fede alla lezione compositiva dell’autore, aprono spazi interpretativi in cui la sezione degli ottoni non si limita alla stesura di fondali e sostegni armonici ma, grazie alla scrittura accurata, interviene da protagonista nello svolgimento dei brani e nell’esposizione dei temi. Shortly after playing Billy Strayhorn’s repertory in a trio format (Fabbri, Giammarco Tavolazzi), the ensemble now goes further homaging the masterworks of the same composer, whose name is so close linked with Duke Ellington, adding a larger brass-oriented ensemble.
The arrangements and the elaborations of some of the best known but also some less famous compositions, are by Alessandro Fabbri and Maurizio Giammarco. Although being faithfull to the original melodies, the arrangers open up new landscapes of interpretations. Thanks to the accurate and detailed writing, the brass section is not only playing a mere background but they contribute deeply to the overall project. Room for expressions is let, finally, to the soloists such as Roberto rossi and Ares Tavolazzi.
